Today’s Good News: Progressive Wins in Texas

Deep in the belly of the beast, things are changing…the Texas legislature reversed course on some extreme actions of the past, and even divested from Sudan.The Progressive States Network sent an update on the recent Texas session. They note that Texas restored 127,000 children to the state insurance program who had been thrown off in 2003. They also backed off on a privatization of the foster care system that was previously ordered. And they sent a constitutional amendment to voters to require recording individual lawmakers’ votes on final passage of bills. PSN sees these actions as part of a trend toward more progressive leadership in the state.
