Today’s Good News: Teens Write New “Code Of The Streets”
Teen Empowerment in Boston has the right idea. Two of its members recently published an editorial in the Boston Globe about their “New Code Of The Streets.”These brave and visionary young people speak of the “code of silence” in their community which keeps people from speaking out against violence or speaking up for their rights. They’ve gotten hundreds of people to pledge support for their code. Here it is:
Man Up: Take Responsibility; Each One Teach One; Find a New Hustle.
Think Outside the Block: Be Real with Yourself; Be an Individual; See as One Community.
Set Goals: Use Your Intelligence, Always Progress, Live above the Influence.
Get Educated: Learn from Your Elders’ Mistakes; Seize Opportunity; Support Others’ Positive Choices.
Use Political Power: Stay Informed and Inform Others; Work for Better Government; Stand Up for Change.
