Today’s Good News: Edwards Goes On Poverty Tour
Presidential hopeful John Edwards is taking a three-day tour focusing on poverty. The tour will take him through New Orleans, Memphis, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, eight other cities and eight states, beginning July 16. He even plans to visit suburban poor areas. Now, I am not necessarily supporting Edwards for President. I am not a Democrat, and I’m not supporting anyone at this point. But I do salute him for being the ONLY candidate to actually talk about poverty and poor people in this country. He’s also the only candidate I know of who is prioritizing young people, having done an early tour of college campuses. The MSM rarely acknowledges the existence of poor people, and will do their best to ignore this tour as well, but hopefully a bit of a spotlight will come to the issue as a result.
The AP story on the tour sniffed that “he is not to first to go on such a tour…President Lyndon Johnson declared the war on poverty in 1964 from eastern Kentucky’s coal country, the same territory that would draw Robert F. Kennedy for a two-day caravan tour in 1968 a month before announcing he would run for president.” And isn’t one visit in 40 years plenty attention for poor people? Jeez.
